I try to be smart about it and schedule my flights in airport terminals which don’t have nude scanners. Once there, I figure out which line leads to the traditional metal detector and get in it.
Were I actually selected for additional screening, I would opt out. My favorite outfit for flying, for this exact reason, is a tunic with leggings. See, the leggings make clear that there’s nowhere for you to hide anything. But the tunic is long, so if they want to thoroughly feel you up, they’re forced to lift it by a solid foot. This is awkward for anyone — it takes a lot more to get a finger inside my waistline when you’re also holding my tunic up than it does if I have on a normal length shirt with jeans.
I also go for high-waist leggings. If the waistline is up at your natural waist, they have to get a whole hand in there to get to anything really private. This, too, makes it much more awkward. Even if it doesn’t work, I figure other passengers watching will be alarmed.
Basically I attempt to make myself not get picked for scanning and awkward to pat down if there is no regular metal detector line.
